Tamás Cseh: Smoke in the Eye memorial concert

We kindly invite you to our memorial concert titled Tamás Cseh - Smoke in the Eye
25 June, 7 p.m. - at the Hungarian House in New York (213 East 82nd Street, New York, NY 10028)
30 June, 7 p.m. - at the Hungarian Embassy in Washington (3910 Shoemaker Street, NW, Washington, DC 20008)

The performers are seniors of the School of Theatre at the University of Kaposvár, Hungary.
The concert is based on songs by iconic Hungarian singer-songwriter Tamás Cseh, who died some years ago. The songs are performed by the 13 members of the senior class, reflecting their interpretation of the original songs, representing a journey across various styles with great élan and energy.

Performers showcase their takes on Cseh’s oeuvre by often changing instrument and tempo between the songs, yet remaining ever true to the artistic intentions of writer-lyricist Géza Bereményi and composers Tamás Cseh and János Másik, who captured the everyday moods and situations of state socialism in their songs with unparalleled verve and musical acumen.
The concert is coordinated by composer Tamás Rozs (Szélkiáltók, Arco trio). In its original incarnation, it was a final exam performance, but the concert has been on tour for two years due to popular demand and thanks to the encouragement and support from Tamás Cseh’s contemporaries and co-composers.

Performers and the team have been preparing and saving for bringing the show to the United States for over a year. These concerts represent the last performances of the two-year tour, since starting in September, the performing seniors will begin their practical training at various Hungarian theatres.
The class will be accompanied by three people from Magic Hand Film Ltd., documenting the journey and the concerts. The documentary is to be screened on Hungarian national television (in the docuseries What journeys!).

We kindly invite those interested in the show from all age groups and will strive to make this a memorable experience for you.

See you at the show,

The class
